Hide Until Done

Cover each part as it is made; uncover at the end; change nothing after.

A drawing folded four times, opened once.

Try it on your work

With your hands

Make a collage in three layers, covering each layer with plain paper before you make the next. Lift all the covers together when the third is done. Stop there; glue nothing more.

In words

Two people write one paragraph between them. Each writes a sentence, folds it out of sight leaving the last word showing, and passes the paper. Unfold after eight sentences and read it aloud unchanged.

In the process

A group ranks five proposals with the authors' names in sealed envelopes. Open the envelopes only when the ranking is written down. Stop there; the ranking stands.

How it has been used

Keep part of the work covered while the rest is made, and uncover it at a point fixed in advance: the folded drawing opened at the end, the name in a sealed envelope opened after the judging, the brief read only once the sketches are done. The move forbids peeking, and forbids changing anything once the cover is off.
