Juxtapose
Place them side by side with no caption; stop before you explain the pairing.
Two images. No caption.
Seen in Sergei Eisenstein, Strike, 1925
Try it on your work
Place two things that have never touched side by side on the emptiest surface available, and leave them there. Return three times. Then write the relation the pairing invented.
Put your project's central claim directly next to a claim from an unrelated life: one sentence each, nothing between them. Read the pair aloud until you can say what the gap between them asserts.
Run two of your options in parallel for one short cycle instead of choosing. Compare not the results but what each one made you do differently.
How it has been used
Put two things side by side and say nothing: the film cut, the double-page spread, the shop window next to the ruin. The relation is made by the viewer or it isn't made. The move forbids the caption: the moment you explain the pairing, you've taken the work back.
