Saturate

Flood one channel past capacity — and keep flooding.

Merzbow: noise sustained past what hearing can parse.

Try it on your work

With your hands

Fill one container, surface, or frame past comfortable capacity with a single kind of thing: deliberately too many, too dense. Stop when adding one more changes nothing. What the excess revealed at the threshold is the container's real size.

In words

Say yes to every incoming request of one kind for one bounded day: every question answered, every ask accepted. Where the flood pooled and where it drained maps the shape of the demand you normally ration by instinct.

In the process

Push one process to well beyond its normal load in a bounded test: double the cases, halve the interval. Stop at the first component that fails or degrades. That component is the true ceiling; the documentation said otherwise.

How it has been used

Flood one channel past its capacity: the wall of sound, the room papered floor to ceiling, the list read too fast to follow. Past overload, attention changes kind. The move forbids relief: the operation lives past the comfortable maximum, and easing off returns everyone to ordinary attention.
