Reframe
Move only the edge and leave the content alone; stop when every change you see traces back to the edge.
Schön: the drainage problem redrawn as a topography problem.
Seen in Marcel Duchamp, Fountain, 1917
Try it on your work
Put the thing you're working on into a different container or setting: the formal thing in a casual place, the rough thing behind glass. Leave it recontextualised for a day, then note what the new frame promoted or demoted.
Retell your project's current situation as three different genres (a weather report, a sports commentary, a confession), one paragraph each. The genre that fit most easily is how you actually feel about it.
Take the same facts of your project and present them under a different heading: the "problem" as a "budget," the "delay" as a "measurement." Stop when the reheaded version suggests one action the original didn't.
How it has been used
Move the boundary and leave the content alone: crop the photograph differently, put the ordinary object on a plinth, extend the deadline and watch the task change. The move forbids touching the content: everything that changes must change because the edge moved.
