Partition
Draw the line and give each side a different rule; if both sides keep the same rule, the line is decoration.
Zoning: the factory legal here, banned fifty metres away.
Try it on your work
Divide your working space or materials into hard zones with a physical boundary (this here, never there) and enforce it for three days. Log every attempted crossing; the traffic pattern is the finding.
Split one tangled discussion into two conversations that are never held in the same sitting: money in one, meaning in the other. What became sayable in quarantine couldn't survive the mixture.
Separate two functions your project currently blends (making and judging, gathering and deciding) into strictly different times or hands, for one cycle. Blends feel efficient; the separation shows what each function does when the other isn't watching.
How it has been used
Divide continuous space into zones with different rules: the quiet carriage, the pitch's penalty area, the room split by a line of tape. The move forces the rules to differ across the line: a boundary with the same law on both sides is decoration.
