Try it on your work
With your hands
Cut a page into strips, then weave ten more strips through them, over one, under one. Stop when the tenth is through.
In words
Write a paragraph that alternates long and short sentences, strictly. Stop at the tenth sentence.
In the process
Two people take turns on a timer, one speaking for a minute, then the other, and neither may sum up. Stop after ten turns.
How it has been used
Switch between two states on a fixed pattern and never let either win: the stripe and its gap, over and under in a weave, the loud bar and the quiet one. The move forbids ending in either state: each always comes back.
